Materials

  • Clay
  • A4 LDPE sheets
  • Epoxy resin
  • Colour pigment for your resin
  • LED lights

Instructions

  • Start by making the moon shape out of clay.
  • Press a few craters into the surface and use crumpled aluminium foil to gently give your moon a rough surface texture.
  • If you want to place decorations on your lamp later, press them into the clay a bit to create a little slot that they will fit in later.
  • Let the clay moon dry.
  • Use a LDPE sheet to vacuum form the mould for the moon.
  • Use another LDPE sheet to vacuum form the slot for the LED light(s).
  • Mix your epoxy resin. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions and be careful when mixing the resin.
  • Prepare your moon mould for pouring and make sure it is secured in place.
  • Pour your resin into the mould of the moon and then insert the mould for the LED lights slot into the resin liquid.
  • Let your resin cast harden. Please check the resin manufacturer's instructions to know how long this will take.
  • Remove the resin shape from the mould and add your finishing touches.
  • Insert the LED lights into the slot in the bottom of the moon.
  • Add your lamp decorations on the surface of the moon by placing them in the slots you created earlier.
  • Done! Now you are ready for a starry night!
